One on One Meetings: Structure, Frequency, & Why They Work

In this video you will be able to take away everything you need to implement one on one meetings today. Individual meetings with the boss are crucial for a business and should be standard practice for every business.

Sunshine: Are you meeting with your team one on one?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

So, we know that we’ve talked about group meetings for your business. But we haven’t talked really about individual meetings. I mean, are they still relevant if you’re having a group meeting? And, you know, open door policy with your employees? Do we really need these scheduled one on one meetings?

Crystal: The answer is yes, and I’ll tell you why. Even though you may be doing group meetings, one on one meetings are equally as important. And I’ll tell you why. Because a lot of times your employees will not share in a group meeting something that they will share in an individual meeting. Because they don’t feel comfortable saying it in front of their colleagues. And it makes your employee feel important because they get private time with the boss. And it makes them feel really, really good and it increases their morale.

Now, let’s talk about the structure of an individual meeting. So, you should be having these individual meetings with all of your employees at least once a month. These are not long meetings. These are 10 minute meetings or less. So, you go to a private area, you tell the employee that this is 100 percent confidential, and you ask these three questions. Number one, what’s going really well for you right now? Number two, what challenges are you facing right now? And number three, how can I best help you? And is there anything else you’d like to share with me today?

Sunshine: Today, we talked about individual meetings. Don’t forget to check out our video on group meeting structures. What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment and thanks for watching.
