Sunshine: Do you and your team make excuses?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business, I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Making excuses. Are you talking about like not taking ownership? Like passing the buck, oh, it wasn’t me. Or, you know, I couldn’t do it because x, y, z.

Crystal: Yep, the dog ate my homework.

Sunshine: Has that ever worked?

Crystal: No, it never works. But why do you think having an excuse culture is so demeaning to the business?

Sunshine: It’s not going to be really good positive energy if everybody is making excuses, right?

Crystal: Right.

Sunshine: And I just don’t like the idea of not owning all your shiz-nets, you know what I mean? Is there a way out of this type of culture that maybe a business is plagued with, with making all these excuses of why they’re not taking ownership of the issue?

Crystal: Yes, there is. And remember, if you don’t acknowledge the problem, you can’t fix it.

Sunshine: So, if you’re getting a lot of complaints that people were making excuses, you might want to listen up. So, are you going to give us the answer? Just give us the answer.

Crystal: Yes, I am. Three ways to take an excuse culture to ownership culture. Number one, led by example. Number two, educate your team on why it’s important to take ownership. Number three, stop accepting excuses. It’s really that simple. You know, call people out in a very professional way, and promote ownership, and reward those people for taking ownership.

Sunshine: What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment and thanks for watching.
