Sunshine: What is your customer’s favorite thing to hear?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Favorite thing to hear?

Crystal: Yup. Do you know what it is?

Sunshine: Not a clue.

Crystal: It’s their name.

Sunshine: You mean it’s not hun, or sweetie?

Crystal: Or boo? No. It’s their name. Why do you think that makes someone feel good?

Sunshine: Well, they identify as that person or the name you’re saying to them, you are calling to them. I don’t know. Is there a psychological reason why people like to hear their name so much?

Crystal: Yes, there is.

Sunshine: Let’s hear it.

Crystal: So, when people hear their own name, it makes them feel special. It makes them feel good. It makes them feel cared for. So, psychologically people love to hear their own name. So, that’s why you need to take some prep time before each day when you meet with your customers or clients and figure out who you are going to talk to or see that day. And when they come in, or you guys meet, you greet them by their name.

Sunshine: Sounds simple enough, right? Learning people’s names.

Crystal: Yeah, simple, but very powerful and effective.

Sunshine: I guess we better brush up on all of that. Usually, I forget a person names almost three seconds after I learn it.

Crystal: A lot of people do that.
