Why Being a “Know It All” is Terrible For Your Business

Being a know it all can exclude or block you from reaching your full potential by stopping you from learning.

Sunshine: I’m a know it all. Are you a know it all?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

All right. So, I get the funny suspicion that I know it all is not a good thing?

Crystal: And you’d be right. See you know that it’s not good.

Sunshine: Because I know it all, right?

Crystal: So, let me ask you a question. Have you ever met someone who was a know it all?

Sunshine: Yeah.

Crystal: And how did you like relating and communicating with that person?

Sunshine: Were they a humble know it all? Or like a not so nice know it all. Because there really is a difference for me.

Crystal: Does it matter?

Sunshine: No, I suppose it can rub you the wrong way, either way. I know that you are going to tell us how to not be a know it all.

Crystal: Well, not necessarily tell you how to not be a know it all but put things into perspective today.

Sunshine: Well, I’m feeling awfully guilty because I say, I know, a lot.

Crystal: Let’s talk about that. So, kids are notorious to be a know it all. When their parents say or tell them what to do, they respond, “I know. I know. I know.” All day long. Now, as adults, we figured that response is rude. So, we do it a little different, sly way. What we do is we don’t say, ‘I know.” Instead, maybe we will lean back, cross our arms, and nod our heads, okay? When you do that, what happens is you are blocking yourself from learning something new. So, let’s do a quick exercise, take a sheet of paper, and then I want you to draw a big circle on that sheet of paper, and then anywhere in that circle take a pen and just make a dot anywhere you want in that circle. So, that dot is how much you actually know. So, stay open so you can learn more great things to enhance your business and your life.

Sunshine: So, it’s not just, I know, but also your body language?

Crystal: You got it.

Sunshine: All right, well I guess we’ll give it a try.

Crystal: I promise it will work.

Sunshine: What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment. And thanks for watching.
