Sunshine: Sometimes being a business owner can be very lonely. You’re not alone.

Crystal: Welcome to the Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

I’m pretty sure everybody lately has been feeling pretty isolated, including the business owners.

Crystal: Yes. And why do you think business owners feel isolated when they’re surrounded by their family, their friends, their network?

Sunshine: Well, I have to say, they may feel isolated because no one knows exactly how they feel. Or their immediate family can’t relate to how they’re feeling.

Crystal: Yep. So, a lot of times, and I hear this a lot from a lot of business owners, is that they feel lonely and they feel isolated. And it’s usually because they are surrounded by people who have corporate jobs or just regular jobs. Now, when you have a regular job, and there’s nothing wrong with that, you have usually specific duties that you’re responsible for. But when you become a business owner, you’re responsible for everything, the marketing, the sales, the delivery, the admin, the systems, and teams. And those skill sets are very, very different as a business owner than someone who has a job.

Sunshine: Just hearing you rattle that list off puts a pit in my stomach.

Crystal: So, when you have your own business, it can be the most rewarding thing you ever do. But in the beginning especially, it can be the most challenging thing that you will ever do.

Sunshine: It sounds pretty intense.

Crystal: Well, let’s talk about ways to mitigate that loneliness. Some great ways to lessen that isolation would be to find other like-minded, positive business owners like yourself, and create those connections and friendships because they know exactly what you’re going through. And just by having someone around you who knows exactly what you’re going through, just release some of that stress, that isolation.

And another thing that you can do is invest in great business books that are motivating to you. So, other business owners or executives or successful people that can tell their story, not just their success story, but what they had to go through to become successful.

And with that said, you’re not alone. Just reach out and build a network and it will make a world of difference.
