How to Win in Business With Your Team

Rules of the game are the policies of your company. When everyone knows what they are, everyone wins.

Sunshine: Business can be like a game. But you got to know the rules.

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Okay. So, we’re looking at business as a game.

Crystal: Yup.

Sunshine: And we need to figure out some basic guideline rules or whatever?

Crystal: Yes, to win in business.

Sunshine: Is this for the employees? Or is this for the business owner? Or is it for the customers?

Crystal: All three. For today’s example, let’s use the team and talk about what rules of the game would mean for the team. These would be your policies, your procedures, your expectations for your team. Examples of rules of the game for your team can be professional conduct, it can be when they should be at work and starting work, when they need to leave work, and asking for permission to have overtime. So, think about what you expect of your team members and then develop some rules of the game for them, so that they can perform at a higher level.

Sunshine: Well, that’s helpful. Now, speaking of customers, since they are playing with rules of the game as well within your business, is this like setting the expectations for your customers of what you expect from them in order to provide the best service?

Crystal: Absolutely. So, when you are looking at the rules of the game for your customer, it can be something as when you expect to be paid, what you need from them so you can fulfill the delivery perhaps.

Sunshine: That really gets the motor running, doesn’t it?
