Do Not Sit Before Your Sales Meeting

This is a very old rule of thumb. It is powerful and is still true today. Learn why sitting can lose the sale.

Sunshine: Did you know that sitting can lose the sale?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Sitting down loses the sale? I really don’t get it.

Crystal: I understand. Let’s talk about it. So, when you go to a business and that business is your prospect, you check in with the receptionist, and what does the receptionist tell you to do?

Sunshine: Have a seat, they’ll be right with you.

Crystal: Yes, they say, have a seat. So, when you go sit down and your prospect comes out, then they are going to be towering over you. Meaning they are at a better power position then you are unconsciously, and it could lead you to literally losing that sale because of that.

Sunshine: So, if you’re not sitting down, I mean, really what should you be doing? Starring at all the pictures on the walls? Taking a lot at their bookshelf if there is one. I mean, should you flip through the magazine on the little magazine table?

Crystal: You can do all of that. The key is, not to sit down no matter how bad you want to or if you are wearing shoes that are stinging your feet. One of the best ways of utilizing your time is chat up the receptionist. They are the gate keeper. Make some friends. Get some information.

Sunshine: All right. All right. Is there anything else we should not be doing, besides, not sitting down?

Crystal: Yes. One other thing that is really powerful, but simple, is when your prospect comes out to greet you, you’re both standing. You shake hands. And they are going to say, “Oh, let’s go to my office.” Or, “Oh, let’s go meet in our conference room.” Before you do that always ask for a tour of their business.

Sunshine: Can I get them dime tour.

Crystal: Yes. Because it gives them a chance to brag a little bit about what they created, it will make them feel good, it will show that you are interested, and that you care about them.

Sunshine: What’s your number one takeaway from today’s video? Leave us a comment. And thanks for watching.
