Sunshine: Are all your teams on the same page?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Okay, so to make sure that all of your teams are on the same page, so like you want them to– Like your marketing team, your sales team, the people who do the deliveries of the product or service, why do you want them all on the same page? I mean, I get it, they all have different jobs, and they have somewhat of a common goal. But what do you mean?

Crystal: Think of it like this, you have separate teams doing very specific duties on each team. But everyone has the same common goal. So, you need to collaborate your teams to make sure everyone’s aligned and on the same page so you can actually reach that common goal.

Sunshine: Okay, so, like the marketing team could ask the sales team like, “Hey, what are you noticing that people are buying more of?” Or, you know, “Can you let me know, when there’s a trend happening or whatever?” Then they can like go back and see which part of their marketing they were running during that time. I suppose you’d want to talk to the people that were doing the delivery of the product or service to find out maybe what demographic it hit, you know? Who were the actually customers, you know? I think that could make a real difference.

How often do you think that these teams should be collaborating like this?

Crystal: At least monthly, it doesn’t have to be a long team meeting. But think of your separate teams as a puzzle piece. Each team is a puzzle piece, and you have to align them, connect them to get the full puzzle, which is the common goal.

Sunshine: I like it. Okay, so what are some ways to really make sure that we foster this collaboration between teams?

Crystal: Three great easy ways to collaborate all your teams together. Number one, bring your teams together for a monthly meeting. Again, it doesn’t have to be a long meeting, but its super powerful.

Number two, create a collaborative open workstation for everyone, for all your teams. They’ll have their own pods each team, but they can see each other and work with each other in real time.

And number three, create an organizational chart that includes duties so everyone knows their role and how they’re connected.

Sunshine: Whoo, I like this teamwork, makes the dream work.

Crystal: That’s right.
