Sunshine: What business bottlenecks are holding you down?

Crystal: Welcome to The Love of Business. I’m Crystal.

Sunshine: And I’m Sunshine. Let’s get to it.

Doesn’t sound good.

Crystal: It’s not good.

Sunshine: Sounds like money loss.

Crystal: It does.

Sunshine: So, what are some like examples or some bottlenecks that businesses face?

Crystal: Sure. So, let’s take a step back and define what a bottleneck is for a business. Number one, a bottleneck in the business is a clog in the workflow.

Sunshine: Okay.

Crystal: And it could be in different areas, sales, marketing, delivery, etc. So, let’s give an example. Say you did this huge Black Friday sale, and you sold all these services and/or products that you’re providing to your clients, but you sold so much you couldn’t deliver them in a timely manner.

Sunshine: Have you ever done that? You’ve bought like one of those like new startup things, and they’re like, “Oh, yeah, buy it now and in like a year we’ll have your product to you.”

Crystal: Yup.

Sunshine: You mean like that, so when you are an established business, you don’t want to do that.

Crystal: Correct.

Sunshine: So, is that a production bottleneck?

Crystal: It can be production, it can be an inefficient employee. And that employee is a bottleneck in themselves because they can’t do their job in a timely manner.

Sunshine: All right, what are some other bottlenecks that are easily identifiable?

Crystal: So, other easily identified could be your technology, maybe your computers are really slow, and it takes 30 seconds to turn on your computer.

Sunshine: You need sharp tools people.

Crystal: So, really what you want to do is to identify where are the clogs? What’s slowing you down? And then taking a strategy and making sure you speed up.

Sunshine: So, what are the three most common bottlenecks that most businesses face?

Crystal: Three common bottlenecks in business. Number one, the leader, the owner doesn’t innovate. They don’t stand up and increase and learn and execute with new innovation for their industry. Number two, the workflow. Once you get a sale and deliver it, if that’s not timely, that can be a big bottleneck. Number three, inefficient employees that take way too long to do their job.

Sunshine: Yes, busy doing nothing employee.
